The Infuse Suite and the Charge Point Management System (CPMS)

At Infuse, we are aware of these questions and constantly work on innovative technical solutions to address these challenges. Our efforts have resulted in the Infuse Suite, a range of software solutions designed to address a wide range of issues within the EV sector. An important component of this suite is the Charge Point Management System (CPMS), a platform that enables charging station operators to perform crucial functions such as monitoring communication with charging stations, accessing the status and location of each charging point, implementing load balancing to prevent overloading the power grid, and setting up smart networks.

Focus on User Experience (UX)

My name is Owen Verhoeven, and as a software engineering at Infuse. My project focuses on improving the process of adding charging stations to the CPMS system. This initiative was driven by market demand for a simplified and less error-prone process. After an intensive period of six months of research and development, I am proud of the progress we have made.

A key element of this project was prioritizing user experience (UX). At a time when society is increasingly shifting towards electric vehicles, it is crucial that the technology supporting this transition is not only functional but also accessible to those working with it. By closely collaborating with the Infuse UX team, we were able to design an application that allows installers to add charging stations to the system with minimal technical knowledge. This has not only improved efficiency but also the overall experience for end users.

Streamlined Charging Station Installation and Future Innovations

The revamped process enables streamlined addition of charging stations to the CPMS system, complete with the ability to assign a configuration profile directly. This innovation makes it easier for Charge Point Operators (CPOs) to store commonly used configurations and easily select them during installation. Ultimately, this leads to a faster, more efficient, and safer addition process.

Through the development of this solution, several future improvement directions have emerged. We have gained new insights into the Open Charge Point Protocol (OCPP) for further integration within the system, which will result in an even more user-friendly and comprehensive management system. By enriching the system with more insightful processes, expanded configuration options, and improved error handling, we are laying the foundation for a future where charging station management becomes not only simpler but also more intuitive.

Streamlined Workflow

The result is a linear workflow for adding charging stations to the CPMS system, similar to software installation processes users are accustomed to on Windows or Mac computers. This process involves establishing a connection with the charging station, displaying details for user verification, and selecting or creating a charging profile, after which the configurations are sent to and validated by the charging station.

With this approach, we expect installers to be able to install and add their charging stations to CPMS more easily, accelerating and simplifying the deployment of charging infrastructure. This project has not only paved the way for improvements within ihomer but has also contributed to my personal and professional growth. It has provided me with insights into the complexity of the EV industry and the important role technology plays in the transition to more sustainable transportation.

As we look ahead, Infuse remains committed to developing solutions that are not only technologically advanced but also user-friendly and accessible to everyone. It is this approach that sets ihomer apart and enables us to take a leading role in supporting the EV transition. I’m grateful for the opportunity Infuse has given me to contribute to this important work and look forward to what the future holds.
